Abstract:
The synthesis of new materials specially designed for the conservation of stone assets has always been a primary goal that Franco Piacenti has pursued since the early years of his activity in this field. This contribution, which revisits the basic steps that have led to the evolution of the perfluoropolyethers that prof. Piacenti introduced as protecting agents for stone materials more than 30 years ago, is a tribute to his intuition, skill and firm belief of importance of science in the conservation of cultural heritage (that he was used to summarize as "Science for Art").
