abstract:
The aim of this contribution is the analysis of pottery from the 4th to the 8th century, based on five Ravenna, Faenza and Rimini archaeological contexts, examining imports and local productions. General remarks are made about the reasons for the changes, continuity and discontinuity over the period studied. The archaeometric study of the common ceramics from Faenza Pasolini's Palace showed evidence of two groups, on the basis of the presence of coarse inclusions: silicate rock fragments or spathic calcite grains. It is probable that the group with silicate inclusions is from the Po valley, while a provenance from north-eastern Italy can be
hypothesised for the coarse ceramics with inclusions of spathic calcite.
