Abstract:
The social multilateralism of sport and its lack of investment · The social multilateralism
of sport is a compromised fact in sports practice. This is usually related to the concept of
competition; area where sporting rules are shared but where, at the same time, the pursuit of
the performance often is not linked to the teaching of relational values in sport. We can find
this teaching only in sports niches in wich there is an expert, holistic approach to the sport, far
from the socio-economic conditioning and the stereotyping of athletic gestures as an end in
themselves. More often, sports teaching highlights a one-sided nature of orientations and
ends, thus showing sport's lack of investment for the development of well-being and human
relations. Today a paradigm shift is needed. Today it is actually possible to think of a greater
interest in the social aspects of sport as a natural evolution of the welfare state, in the direction
of an approach based on sport as a 'relational and cultural asset'. The analyses of this paper
are based on the scientific results of the «Sport and integration» research by the National
Research Council of Italy, which has helped to break the myth of educational sport.
