Softly smart: experiencing pl@ce identity

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2017
abstract:
One of the most recent approaches to place development is the construction of integrated systems for the management of cultural and identity resources to be enjoyed through experiential itineraries. These itineraries were designed on the basis of a survey of existing material and immaterial heritage, with a view to supporting existing creative industries or helping to create new ones. Visitor experience of a place can be further enhanced and virtualized by using smart technologies. The aim of this paper is to illustrate studies on experiential itineraries. These studies are rooted in the disciplines of psychology and economy, and, more recently, in disciplines that study places. The author then proposes a software of her own design, the Div@ter, an analysis and design tool for the identification and enhancement of cultural and identity resources. Div@ter is a dynamic and interactive platform for the complex and sensitive management of the qualitative data of a place. The tool is conceived as a single platform with different entry points, both private and public - for local authorities, professionals, and citizens. The project is financed by POR FESR Lazio Region 2007/2013 Axis 1- Activity 1.1. By way of an example, the author concludes her paper with a brief presentation of case studies she carried out in the historical center of Palestrina and the medieval center of Gaeta in the Lazio Region, both characterized by low tourism impact. The main objective of these studies is achieving smart sustainable experiential knowledge of a place allowing sustainable enjoyment of identity resources.
