abstract:
Archaeometric surveys on bronze ingots of the Iron Age found in San Giorgio di Valpolicella in Casaletti settlement (Verona).Interpretaion of use for the oven found. The recent stratigraphic excavation at the Casaletti site, in San Giorgio di Valpolicella, has returned a large quantity of metal finds. These are buckles and ornamental objects together with nine ingots, mainly bars without markings similar to those circulating in the precoin Age. The chemical and microstructural characteristics of the ingots found in Casaletti site are comparable with those of the "Ramo secco" found in the Verona area and in the areas south of the Po river. The find-ings indicate the presence of a workshop for the remelting of scrap and probably for the scorification of manufacts with a high iron content. The site studied also returned the fragments of a small oven with a perforated top not used for metallur-gical activity. The oven was probably located in the room adjacent to the workshop, where it performed culinary functions
