THE EFFECT OF APPLICATION OF ACTIVATED SLUDGE DIFFUSION SYSTEM ON THE BACTERIAL COMPOSITION IN THE OXIDATION LINE OF MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

Conference Poster
Publication Date:
2022
abstract:
The emission of unpleasant odors is one of the major nuisances caused by municipal wastewater treatment plants. AS Diffusion (Activated Sludge Diffusion) is one of the systems for abatement of the osmogenic compounds of the plants. This system uses the oxidation lines of the plant as a bio-scrubber to treat the air contained in the closed compartments of the plant. The TOASD project, carried out at the Turi's municipal wastewater treatment plant in Puglia, have the aim to study the effects of the AS Diffusion system on the microbiological composition of sludge, through the monitoring the biomolecular composition in two separated oxidation tanks presents in the plant. The quantitative real-time PCR analysis of the species selected for this research work has been then performed, with the aim of monitoring any variations between the two tanks over time.
