The activity of the CNR IBAM (now transferred to CNR IASI), which works following the discipline rules of Archaeological Topography and the ones of "Carta Archeologica d'Italia", systematically develops the research program "GIS for Cultural Heritage of Italian territory", improved and updated for more than a decade in the CNR. The research, with laboratory and direct survey integrated actions, is conducted both by the IBAM Unit of Rome and by the Laboratory of ancient Topography and Photogrammetry CNR-Università del Salento. The activities are developed on two working lines: implementation, elaboration, operative and scientific validating of the cartographic, alphanumeric and graphical data inside of the SIT, gathered data from published researches, archives, CNR activities in progress and from connected Universities structures; topographical field surveys, developed by individual researchers for different needs, particular scientific value, risk or connected to urban projects, public works and changes, etc.
