Acoustooptic interaction efficiency in Ti:LiNbO3 waveguide

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
1987
abstract:
The acoustooptic interaction efficiency between surface acoustic waves (SAW) and optical guided waves (OGW) shows a strong ependence on the transversal shape of optical and acoustic fields. This implies a strong dependence of the interaction efficiency on the acoustic frequency which must be taken into account in the design of wideband acoustooptic devices. In the present paper the acoustooptic interaction efficiency versus acoustic frequency is analyzed for a single mode Titanium indiffused waveguide. The overlapping integral of the optical and acoustic fields is calculated versus acoustic frequency for different refraction index profiles of the optic guide; these profiles are related to the parameters of the technological process of fabrication.
