Colonie ou pas, « je ne peux me séparer des miens »

Chapter
Publication Date:
2015
abstract:
Albert's Camus work arises from French outskirts of colonial exploits (i.e. like Cesaires's), this consideration allows reconsidering it by looking at his thought on the man's relation to History and vice versa. Even the concepts of colonist, colonized and colonialism evolve in the time of, and according to the geographical context. If in "A Happy Death" and "Noces suivi de L'Été", the presence of the Arabs is problematic, conversely "The First Man" marks an essential change. In this novel, their very existence outlines an Algeria-mosaic. Camus reveals an intuitive perception of the world where the simple man deals with the situation by setting his individual right to life and to live his existence in the country where he was born: it is people's lives, which make Algeria.
