abstract:
The presentation addresses the issue of the impact of social media on scientific research. The European Commission and other funding bodies oblige researchers to communicate research results to maximize the impact on society, politics and the economy. The Horizon Europe framework program also obliges them to practice open science. These obligations require an online presence of researchers.
For sure, social media don't measure the quality of the research but only give more visibility. For example, posting a scientific article on Twitter within three days of the publication increases its citations by 75%.
Social media also monitor real-time the impact of research on the scientific community, politics, the economy and society.
