abstract:
There is a growing interest in expanding knowledge in mechanisms regulating both soil ecological functionality in relation to the external practices. In this report we show a methodology turned to wide knowledge about the biological fertility of soils and the role of the organic matter. It has been proposed a strategy for the preservation of the fertility and productivity in agricultural soils. The application and efficiency of this strategy may be controlled through suitable biochemical markers which reflect microbial activity and basal metabolism in soil. The practices suggested to recover degraded soils are natural, low cost, and applicable mainly in soils exposed to serious risks of desertification due to climate and anthropic impact.
