Open Source nella formazione: un' esperienza nel settore dei BB.CC.

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2007
abstract:
The several undeniable advantages of open source technology - gratuitousness, rapid development and, in most cases, user-friendliness - are the main reasons for its rapid spreading in many fields; in historic-architectural heritage promotion, such features play a role that is not only operational, but also functional: they actually make open-source software especially effective in supporting those processes of knowledge management and sharing and of multicharacterization of cultural heritage fruition paths, that are essential for the recovery of the collective historical knowledge and the reappropriation of the heritage significance on the part of communities, as pre-requisites for a correct cultural heritage preservation and promotion process. This fundamental consideration has led, in the planning stage of the "Digital Technologies and Information Systems for Cultural Heritage Expert Technician" training course - funded by Apulian Region - to support most laboratory activities with open-source (QGis, OpenOffice) and freeware applications. This work presents the implications of this decision on the whole training experience, pointing out application criticities and potentialities.
