La tomba ellenistica di "Valle Calandrella" a Norchia

A funeral assemblage recovered in Cura di Vetralla (VT) was published by Giovanni Colonna in 1965 in Notizie degli Scavi. The finds came from a chamber tomb illegally excavated in the necropolis of Norchia, located in "Valle Calandrella", north-east of Casalone. In 1969 the excavation of this Hellenistic tomb was resumed and completed by the Superintendency in collaboration with the Guardia di Finanza. Thanks to the discovery of the report and the graphic and photographic documentation of the excavation drawn up by Enrico Sciarpa - Assistant of the Superintendency, it was possible to rediscovered today the archaeological finds of this tomb in the deposits of the National Etruscan Museum of the Rocca Albornoz in Viterbo. This finds, including fragments of a clay sarcophagus and a painted amphora, both of the Tuscania production, offer the starting point for some thought on the contacts between Norchia and Tuscania in the Hellenistic period.
