abstract:
The book focuses on the philosophical discussions on Cartesian rationalism developed until the early decades of the nineteenth century, about the encyclopedia of knowledge and techniques of argumentation. From the book emerges the dissemination of Cartesianism in disciplines other than those considered by Descartes, and the persistence of paradigms inspired by Cartesianism in the testing procedures, even when they had abandoned the "geometric spirit". The various essays in the volume cover a period ranging from reflections on method of J. Aconcio to discussions on natural theology in the early nineteenth century British retracing the path of varied reflections among geometric method and Cartesian method in various philosophies of Cartesian inspiration, in the Netherlands, in France, in the Republique des Lettres; in discussions on the imagination, on medicine, on biology on the matters of fact and of the test procedures between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
