abstract:
The paper reconstructs, through Seneca's testimony, the only known theory of primitivism provided by Stoicism and which is due to Posidonius. To the early natural and primitive phase, during which mankind is guiltless but struggled by needs, a period follows in which power is held by wise. This is the real golden age, when wise are also the founders of arts and techniques. Though the golden age also degenerates because moral vice. Posidonius' idea is that mankind history is articulated in positive and negative phases depending on the role held by wisdom.
