Response of artichoke to salinity.

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2005
abstract:
Abstract: Results of a research to study salinity effects on artichoke cv. Orlando are reported. Salinity rise delayed the artichoke regrowth, decreased the leaves number, the plant height, the number and the basal diameter of shoots, average weight and the number of buds. Threshold and slope values confirm literature's indications that put artichoke among the species moderately salt tolerant. In particular, threshold and slope values for weight of buds yield was equal to 2.6 dS m(-1) and 5.4 % m dS(-1), respectively; for number of buds, instead, we can observe a higher tolerance with threshold of 4.6 dS m(-1) and slope of 3.9 % in dS(-1).
