abstract:
The study of the stone tools from the prehistoric sites in Milena territory, which has already been the object of a specific research, has firstly concerned, among other things, the problem about the origin of the obsidians. On the basis of the sole autopsy data, the green obsidian from Pantelleria and the prevailing one from Lipari were distinguished.
In order to establish the origin, a portable XRF spectrometer, patented by the Laboratori Nazionali del Sud in Catania, was used.
On the basis of the results, which confirmed what we supposed from the autopsy observations, hypothesis about the ways of circulation and distribution of this volcanic glass were made, bearing in mind its different original sources (Pantelleria e Lipari).
