Mechanisms for Communication Resource Management in ISO/OSI Layers

Communication resource management solutions for the MODIAC local area network is presented. Communication resources were grouped into classes, and suitable mechanisms were developed to facilitate resource status representation and manipulation. Management tasks were structured in a general model suitable for implementing resource control in each ISO/OSI environment. The MODIAC management functions are also introduced. They make use of a suitable set of management primitives available to network operating system processors.
