Getting across the border between the natural and the artificial worlds

This paper introduces the twelve articles in a special issue of the International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence devoted to the first International Symposium om Brain, Vision and Artificial Intelligence. Multidisciplinary approaches of biophysics and neurobiology, visual and cognitive science, and cybernetics dealing with the interaction of natutal and artificial systems are discussed.
