Shape and thickness effects on the magnetization reversal of Py/Cu/Co nanostructures

Abstract:
WepresentanexperimentalinvestigationofthemagnetizationreversalprocessinNiFe/Cu(10nm)/Co circular andellipticalnano-elementswithdifferentthicknessofthemagneticlayers.Theresults obtainedusingelementsensitiveX-rayresonantmagneticscattering(XRMS)werecomparedwiththe previous measurementsshowingthatthedipolarinterlayercouplingfavourstheantiparallelalignment of thetwomagnetizationlayersatremanance.Inthecaseofcircularshape,theincreasedthicknessof the ferromagneticlayersstabilizestheantiparallelalignmentofthelayersoverawiderfieldrange.A similareffect,accompaniedbyadelayintheonsetoftheantiparallelalignment,isobservedinthecase of ellipticalnano-elementsandapplyingtheexternalfieldalongthelongeraxisoftheelements,dueto the additionalshapeanisotropy.
