abstract:
Two of the experiences that formed the core activities the Interreg III Italy-Albania and the "Low
Cost Software & Cultural Heritage" training course, had the aim of combining the demands of economic
development with the protection of cultural values both in our region, Apulia, and in other
realities that face the Mediterranean. The challenge is to use the cultural values of sites as engines
that can trigger the dynamics of an endogenous development, through experimentation with new
forms of protection, management and exploitation of the historical-architectural heritage through
the use of new open source or, in general, low cost technologies to allow the use and enjoyment of
local heritage to an increasing number of users. The attention mainly focused on the techniques of
digital survey of monuments and on innovative techniques of VR photography, with the creation of
virtual tours. The use of new technologies represents an innovative means for sharing experiences
and practices in the future. The idea is not to aim at a passive technology transfer, but, rather, at the
sharing and comparison rising from the cooperation and training activities.
