abstract:
The paper illustrates, through the description of three specific projects, the procedures for a multidisciplinary approach to the territory carried out, in recent years, by the research group of the Institute for Technologies Applied to Cultural Heritage. The group's activity focuses on the study of the cultural heritage in its environment, taking into account the multiple aspects that characterize the territory and that determine the evolutive processes of the resident population. The multidisciplinary approach includes the construction of Geographic Information Systems that collect and manage integrated information at environmental, historical and archaeological scale and the experimentation of innovative technologies for the acquisition of spatial data, such as photogrammetry and laser scanner, which allow to realize three dimensional modes of terrain and virtual reconstruction of monumental heritage.
The three case studies briefly summarized in the article concern two international missions, the first in Peru, on Chan Chan archaeological site, the second in Jordan, in Petra Valley, and a project for the touristic qualification of the Policoro area.
