The paper we provide an overview of the historical roots of the on data protection in European Union legal System. Then, we discuss on digital single market as described in the Communication from the Commission of 19 May 2010 to the European Parliament, the Council, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions - A Digital Agenda for Europe [COM(2010) 245 final].
