Assessment of children exposure from ITS-5.9 GHz Vehicular Connectivity

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2023
abstract:
This study aims to investigate the radio-frequency electromagnetic field (RF-EMF) exposure levels of pedestrians, specifically in children, in the Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication technology. The scenario investigated comprised a 3D CAD model of a city car equipped with two vehicular antennas operating at the 5.9 GHz and four children models positioned at the Front and Back of the car. The simulations were performed with Sim4Life platform exploiting the FDTD method. The exposure levels were evaluated by computing the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) over 10 g and 1 g of the skin tissue and eyes tissues, respectively. The results showed that the highest exposure levels were on the head region when the children were near the rear antenna. However, all the SAR values obtained were well below the limits imposed by the basic restriction of the ICNIRP and IEEE.
