Exposure Assessment for a Wearable Patch Antenna Array at 39 GHz

abstract:
This study investigates exposure of the human skin to a wearable patch antenna tuned at 39 GHz. Four planar skin models with increasing complexity are considered: from a homogeneous model with dermis properties to the four-layered model composed of the stratum corneum, dermis, fat, and muscle. All four models have the same power reflection coefficient. The surface absorbed power density averaged over 1 cm2 of skin (Sab) was calculated. The results suggest that the homogeneous model underestimates the Sab at the air/skin interface by 22.1%.
