Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2016
abstract:
The study of the relationship between over-ground and underground urban development based on a long period approach has not only a significant relevance within urban history but it also reveals many surprising possibilities, and limits, of intervention in application of the guidelines of best practice in architecture and sustainable urban development. The study of underground historical functions, in application of natural elements management, is fundamental to guarantee the preservation of the communicative role of these historical spaces within reconversion planning. Underground space can be seen as a bridge between history and future, reconversion practices must be carefully monitored not to influence the delicate equilibrium of underground cultural and natural environment.
