abstract:
This study is about elephant iconography in Punic and Neopunic Coinage. The elephant is shown for the first time on the Carthagian Coinage of the Iberian Peninsula between the 237 and 227 BC.
Later, it is found again on the Sicilian and North-African coins where it became the symbol of the Numidian and Mauritanian nationalism.
