Hydrogeological Map of Rome Municipality

Abstract
Publication Date:
2016
abstract:
Groundwater knowledge and mapping wide urban areas is always a challenge for hydrogeologists, because of many interactions occurring between natural processes and anthropic activities, and also the complexity of survey. This is especially complicated in the case of complex hydrogeological setting as in the case of Rome.Rome is located in a extensional post-orogenic tectono-sedimentary basin at the western periphery of the Apennine belt, between two main volcanic complexes; it is crossed by two main rivers and several minor tributaries. The interaction of these three aspects defines a very articulated setting of groundwater circulation. The Hydrogeological Map of Rome, 1:50.000 scale, has been realized starting by data collected in advance. In detail, water table shapes and data collected during previous surveys have been compared with present data collected by the new Groundwater Monitoring Network of Rome, established during the last year.
