Informatica umanistica e analisi dei testi filosofici. Un bilancio degli studi

The way in which information science and humanistic studies are connected is examined on the ground of the classical distinction between information science linguistically oriented and information science documentation oriented. The latter has a dual reliance in its developments: (a) on the whirlwind progress of hard- ware and software technologies and (b) on the methods and state of the art of com- putational linguistics. As an aid to mitigate this dependency - and to ensure the re- quisite freedom in data collection, preservation and processing -, due to the advent of the Internet, there are the UNICODE encoding of the documents and XML for structur- ing the textual data. On the other hand, many promises of computational linguistics and lexical statistics have found a serious constraint in the difficulty of adequately for- malizing natural language and its inherent ambiguity.
