Contributo allo studio delle dinamiche insediative nel territorio antico di Taranto: metodologie di indagine e analisi dei dati

This essay gives a diachronic analysis of the archaeological evidences in the territory of Taranto, with a series of queries to the Territorial Informative System in use at the Laboratory of Ancient Topography of the Università del Salento. Using the usual instruments of the ancient topography (analysis of the published bibliography, complete reconnaissance with precise positioning of the found ancient evidences, reading and interpretation of the historical and new aerial photographies), the studied area is the territory immediately North of the town and the South-Eastern area up to the coast. The study, which gives a synthesis from the Paleolithic to the Medieval age, underlined the importance of a systematical and detailed survey of the territory and an extreme lack of known data (above all about the North-Western and Western sectors), to which we should add the lasting and progressive damages of the region, in particular of anthropic cause.
