abstract:
In the global carbon cycle there is more
and more evidence of the importance of
forests. In fact, if they represent about
30% of emerged lands, the carbon
contained in these ecosystems makes up
for 80% of the aboveground carbon and
40% of the belowground carbon.
Forests are responsible for 60-70% of
the main productivity of all the
ecosystems on the earth and, in these last
30 years they have absorbed 20 to 30%
of greenhouse gas emissions caused by
human activities. This confirms the
importance of their role in the global
biogeochemical carbon cycle especially
with reference to carbon emission
increase in the atmosphere and to
climate changes currently under way.
