abstract:
The article concerns the results of the last excavations (2002, 2003, 2005) carried out in the central area of the Priniàs settlement, focusing on the area of the temple A. The undertaking of renewed excavations in the area of the temple A is part of a wider project concerning the restoration and study of the well-known sculptures from the temple now in the Iráklion Museum. Thus far, the research allowed to bring to light a street running from North of the temple to the large square and the earliest stages of occupation of the area, going back to LM IIIC. Furthermore, ritual depositions of pottery of PGB period are probably connected to a new arrangement of the area. The dynamics of continuity and disuse of the area, studied in the framework of the settlement's life, could help to explain the circimstances surrounding the Birth of a Greek temple.
