Role of human variability on the estimation of the electric field and of the current density during transcranial direct current stimulation

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2012
abstract:
Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a neuromodulatory technique that delivers low intensity, direct current to cortical areas facilitating or inhibiting spontaneous neuronal activity. Aim of this paper is to evaluate how individual anatomical differences may affect the current flow through the human body, particularly in the brain. This will be done by applying computational methods to human models of different age and sex and comparing the electric field and current density distributions within the human tissues.
