The Last Deglaciation in the South Adriatic Sea: Biostratigraphy and Paleoceanography

Academic Article
Publication Date:
1996
abstract:
The frequency patterns of planktonic foraminifera from four cores (AD 91-14, AD91-16, AD 91-17an IN 61-5), drilled in south Adriatic sea, allow us to subdivide the last declaciation into 8 intervals. these intervals, calibrated with 14 AMS dating and isotope stratigraphy, provide a detailed biochronology for this basin. The oxygen isotopic records obtained from the planktonic foraminifera G. bulloides from the cores AD91-15, IN 68-5 and IN 68-9 show for the South Adriatic sea the same paleoclimatic trend in the North Atlantic ocean. Infact the two main steps of the deglaciation are very well identified, corresponding to the Termination Ia and Ib as well as the Younger Dryas cold event.
