Protocolli di indagine con tecniche non distruttive sulla composizione di canne di antichi Organi della Sicilia, Bollettino dell'Accademia Gioenia di Scienze Naturali

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2000
abstract:
In this work a non destructive method for the qualitative and quantitative characterisation of the metallic alloy of ancient organ pipes is presented and discussed. The method is based on the XRF and PIXE technique. The technique has been developed on the INFN-LNS LANDIS laboratory in Catania and it has been used for a systematic study of twohundred organ pipes coming from ancient Sicilian organs. This study is particularly important for the restaurateurs; they can use the scientific information to restore the metallic alloy and to obtain information about the manufacturing technique and about the degradation processes of the alloy.
