The aim of the present study was the cultural exchanges and relations as well as the development of the settlements in the Bradano river Valley in Basilicata (southern Italy), from the prehistoric era until the Roman imperial Age. We started with the presentation of the history of surveys, centered on Magna Graecia and also the electronic management of GIS data in Italian archaeology. We then examined the research methodology and the techniques we applied in the field survey such as the subsequent description of the new archaeological settlements accompanied by statistics of movable finds. Then we referred to the chronological determination of archaeological sites and finally to the general interpretation and comparison of the data, regarding the historical development of the area. The hierarchy of the archaeological sites was based on specific parameters and the spatial distributions were determined according to density calculation specialized procedures in the Geographic Information System.
