abstract:
Based on the experience gained when testing lateral stability according to Code 6 (narrow-track tractors
with front-mounted ROPS), the Italian Testing Stations reported to the Prague Test Engineer's Conference
the following observations:
o the measurement of the stability limit angle using different methods for the same tractor
(= Tilting platform, Wheel lifting, Horizontal displacement of the protective frame) result in
differences up to 12°;
o some tractors that pass the 38° test with the method of direct lifting of one axle, do not pass with
such method(s) as using a tilting platform.
Since different methods can bring different results in static stability assessment of the tractor, the
Test Engineer's Conference concluded that a new wording of the Code was perhaps necessary. The draft
Summary Record contains a proposal for amending the lateral stability test (first line of paragraph 3.1.3.2
page 33).
