NONDESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION USING HTS SQUID MAGNETOMETER TO DETECT IMPACT DAMAGE IN CARBON FIBER REINFORCED POLYMERS WITH DIFFERENT FIBERORIENTATION

abstract:
In this work the detection of damage, due to impact loading, on CFRPs using Eddy Current
technique based on HTS dc-SQUID (Superconductive QUantum Interference Device) magnetometer is
presented. The main advantage of HTS SQUID magnetometer is represented by its unrivalled magnetic
flux sensitivity, which allows to detect defects in materials with a very low electrical conductivity as
CFRPs. The SQUID magnetic flux measurements has been compared with the results obtained using
standard Eddy Current induction coil.
