L'amianto a bordo delle navi

The article presents the results of a research by INSEAN (Marine Technology Researcher Institute) of CNR (National Research Council), on the asbestos topic. This Research, - throughout the unique use of archival, judicial and bibliographic sources - analyze the aspects related to asbestos aboard ships. It is a problem of enormous social impact and of large proportions, since 90% of the world's freight transport is now on the ship. The article, after an introduction of asbestos history, draws attention to the use of asbestos in naval shipbuilding. The first results of the creation of a "AMINAVI" Data Bank of naval units, aircraft and arsenals are also presented, covering a time span of about 100 years. The aim of the research is to overcome the fragmentation, partiality and complexity of finding information available to date, which still characterizes the asbestos issue in the maritime sector.
