Effects of latent heat release on baroclinic cyclones

Recent results of idealized modeling of moist baroclinic waves in primitive equations are presented and compared with previous studies performed with different approximations, Preliminary findings confirm the increased growth rate and reduced wavelength of moist baroclinic normal modes, while the spatial structure obtained previously in the quasi geostrophic approximation appears to be partly in error.
