Polythiazole: a new semiconducting polymer having heteroatoms in the conduction pathway

abstract:
With the aim of understanding the influence of heteroatoms in the conduction pathway in organic conducting polymer, we envisaged the insertion of a nitrogen atom in the main conjugated skeleton. A convenient monomer for this purpose turned out to be thiazole. We have synthesized 2,5-polythiazole and tried to "dope" it with redox agents. D.C. conductivity measurements performed on the doped material gave values of about 10-7?-1 cm-1.
