International Cooperation for the Protection of the Environment and Sustainable Development - The Situation Today

One of the principal lacunae in the present legal framework lies, in the Author's opinion, in the separation between law applicable in peace time and problems concerning environmental protection and the fight against hunger in time of war, and/or in unstable areas, or in the presence of unresolved conflict. Militarization, war and armed conflict are part of the current scene in international relations and wreak serious damage to the environment, often to a point beyond possible repair. Related problems are: a) that of migration resulting from armed conflict or environmental catastrophes and climatic changes and b), that of food aid in conflict areas.
