The effect of preservative interventions on the chemical-physical and structural characteristics of panel painting

Edited Book
Publication Date:
2009
abstract:
For this work, preservative intervention is defined as curative process for wooden support by use of treatment solutions in order to conserve panel paintings in good condition or not to get them in worse condition. Physical parameters (density, porosity, shrinkage and moisture content) are indicators for evaluating the effectiveness after treatment, through the comparison with the same parameters measured before the treatments. Panel paintings are essential components of Cultural Heritage all over the world. Especially in Romania, icons are one of the most important heritages. Recently their protection and conservation have become more and more important today, and scientific analysis can offer the physical, chemical and structural characterization of the material composing panel paintings.
