Abstract:
A profile of Franco Ramella (1939-2020) is drawn
herein, based on his published writings. Born and raised in Biella, a militant and an executive
of the anticolonial networks and the Italian Socialist Party, then an executive of psiup, the
Italian Socialist Party of Proletarian Unity, and an active member of Turin's political-cultural
circles, he took up studying history comparatively late. The evolution of Ramella's journey
as a researcher led him to a shift from the investigation of the development of the working
classes, with a focus on conflict, to communal organisations and family relations (the high-
light is Terra e telai, 1984, a classic), and then on to migration.
