Phenakit e and bertrandit e
of the Laghetto quarry,
Colico (LC)
The Laghetto pegmatite dike, belonging
to the Piona pegmatite
swarm, Colico municipality, Lecco
province, is an Italian famous collecting
locality because of the beautiful
crystals of chrysoberyl found
there. The vertical pegmatite dike
had been mined for ceramic albite
at the beginning of '900. During
the winter 2002-2003 a field work
allowed to find several beautiful
chrysoberyl specimens associated
to almandine garnet, zircon, uraninite
and rare beryl. Closely associated
to this primary paragenesis
occur an interesting secondary hydrothermal
association constituted
by phenakite, bertrandite, secondary
beryl, fluorapatite, and not
determined secondary U-bearing
minerals. The first two secondary
Be-bearing species are new for this
locality and for the whole Piona
pegmatite swarm.
