Abstract:
During 1970s an articulated migratory flow between Italy and Egypt took shape,
destined to grow. They were students and workers, mainly employed in the construction and
mechanical industries. This movement is linked to the particular situation of the two countries,
in the midst of the international crisis following the 1973 oil shock. In Egypt the easing of emigration restrictions wanted by Sadat stimulated departures, which started to be directed also
towards countries like Italy, previously little characterized by Egyptian emigration. In Italy the
economic and social transformations of the decade favoured the arrival of workers from abroad,
although without an adequate legislative framework.
