Numerical techniques applied to solid propellant combustion

Academic Article
Publication Date:
1988
abstract:
Results concerning numerical simulations of solid propellant combustion are presented. The mathematical model, which is based on the solid phase energy conservation equation , and the numerical solution techniques are briefly described. Depending on the physical situation, either a reference frame fixed to the burnung surface or one fixed to the laboratory are used. Scale transformations or non uniform grids are adopted to reduce CPU time. The results presented include depressurization, ignition and constant pressure combustion with heat losses from the propellant cold boundary.
