The volume contains the critical edition of a vernacular collection of lives of the saints around 1300, most of which come from the Legenda aurea des Jacopo da Varazze and present its earliest vernacularisation. In addition, the volume provides a linguistic examination of the style and strategies used to translate hagiographic texts and their specific iconography into the vernacular. A comprehensive glossary is appended.
