The attractiveness of the port of Naples-territory system for cruises: preliminary findings

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2007
abstract:
The aim of this paper is to discuss the critical factors influencing attractiveness of the tourism destination as result of the cruise phenomenon, increasing the potential of the destination itself to generate new business and new passenger traffic leading to actual benefits to the local economy. The work analyses the existing cruise product concept as illustrated in the literature, so as to understand the role played by the port-territory system in the cruise tourism segment. Based on this concept it will be possible to develop a framework for the analysis of ashore attractive resources and services: the identification of these factors will enable to measure the capability of the "port-territory" system of exploiting the potential advantages linked to tourism growth. This model will then be adopted for the "portof Naples-territory" system and, specifically, for the analysis of the core attractiveresource, that is the Neapolitan port.
