abstract:
Multiple environmental stressors, on both short-term and long-term basis, challenged early land
plants since they colonized the land, around 450 million years ago. Emerged lands were far
more sensitive to changes in climate than oceans, and plants have displayed during evolution an
extraordinary ability to survive (i.e., to adapt) dramatic variations in environmental conditions.
